Over The August Bank Holiday week-end, Matt Birkin took 628,which he part owns, to the Island Steam Show at the Steam Railway, Havenstreet and won first prize! In his own words ;-" Completely out of the blue it won the best commercial vehicle in show award as judged by the commercial vehicle section.  (normally a lorry wins, in fact this is the first time a bus has)
I wasn't going to take it around the arena on the Monday as lots of others were there and I didn't think there would be room, plus it was rather muddy.  I did wonder why the commercial vehicle section steward was so insistant that I did take it in!!  I wasn't even listening to the announcment as I had my head in the engine bay of a very nice showmans Scammel.  Anyway 628 got a very nice sheild which I have had engraved and is currently proudly displayed on the bus."
Well, congratulations to Matt and all those involved in restoring this bus. Pictures of Matt, the bus & shield can be found on the Photo Gallery page
